O’Grady Wrecks ’em

A second half goal from substitute Chris O`Grady saw the Millers get back into winning ways and come back from Wales with three points in the bag.

The visitors came out of the blocks first and Marcus Bean should have done better in the opening minutes but his shot went over the bar and Wrexham quickly got into the game although rarely troubling Andy Warrington in the Millers goal. Ex Miller, Michael Proctor had the best chance for the Dragons and should have put them ahead in the thirty-sixth minute when he got the ball and with the goal begging, sliced his shot and saw it go horribly wide. After that, the Millers picked up their game and loanee Bruce Dyer looked efficient up front. Just before half time, he got free on the left and found Derek Holmes who should have scored from six yards out but his header hit the post and was then saved by Anthony Williams, in the Wrexham goal. Dyer himself, Peter Holmes and Marcus Beans had chances before that but saw the ‘keeper easily save.

The home team came out for the second half looking for three points, with Neil Roberts and substitute Matt Crowell having shots cleared in the first few minutes. On the sixty-fifth minute, Stephen Brogan had a shot from twenty yards out that was just tipped over the post by Williams and five minutes later a near identical shot at the other end from Chris Llewellyn saw a similar fingertip save from Andy Warrington with the resulting corner being cleared by Bean. Then, on the seventy-eighth minute, Andy Todd received the ball from Peter Holmes down the right wing, beat the off-side trap, and his man, and found O`Grady who hit the ball into the top right hand corner of the net. The Millers then defended stoutly for the last minutes of the game. Bean was booked for a foul on Silvio Spann, who took the resulting free kick himself and brought off a second fingertip save from Warrington and the corner was cleared up field by Danny Harrison.

A first away win since March and second win of the season must make Mark Robins a happy manager tonight, even if the play wasn`t as good as we thought it could have been.
