Newell A Wanted Man

Rotherham United winger Joe Newell is thought to be wanted by two clubs.

The Doncaster Free Press are linking the twenty-six year old with Doncaster Rovers while there are also rumours that Newell’s former club, Peterborough United, are keen to have him back.

Rovers finished last season in the top six losing out to Charlton Athletic in the League One play-offs while Peterborough finished a point behind Doncaster just missing out on a play-off place.

Newell joined the Millers from the Posh in August 2015 as a midfielder before playing more as a winger, scoring five goals in thirty-eight appearances in his first season. He went on to make another one hundred and twelve appearances for Rotherham, thirty-two of which were last season.

While at the New York Stadium Joe has made his name as a bit of a dead ball specialist from corners and free-kicks.

It’s not a surprise that clubs are tracking Newell and early today we shared an article saying that Rotherham had offered ‘further offers’ to both Newell and Anthony Forde. It’s also expected that both Jon Taylor and Ryan Williams will be moving to pastures new so, to me, that means that Newell could be more or less expected to be classed as a team starter, though, of course, it could be that Paul Warne has thoughts to fetch in other wingers. Personally, and it is only my personal point of view, I think it would be quite bad practice to lose four wingers this summer especially if more than one of them ends up with a League One team.

I just think that if they go to teams in League One it must mean they’ve been offered a better deal – otherwise as they all say how much they love being at Rotherham why would they want to leave?
