Rotherham United fans, me amongst them, have been a little worried on the non-signing of another goalkeeper.

Millers Manager Paul Warne has himself said that he wants ‘at least a week’ before the season starts with a new ‘keeper, well presumably with any player.

And we all know we all want Marek Rodak back after he helped us win promotion at Wembley last season. Marek came on a season long loan from Fulham and fitted in straight away and went on to make thirty-eight appearances.

Fulham will start this coming season in the Premier League and, at the end of last season I think we all thought that there wouldn’t be much of a problem with Marek re-joining on, perhaps, another season long loan.

Well, as we all know, things often don’t go as you want them in football. Fulham seemed content with a trio of ‘first team’ ‘keepers on their books, including Rodak, who would be third choice. There were even rumours that they were interested in another ‘keeper which would push the Millers’ fans choice down to fourth.

Then, they sold David Button to Brighton and Hove Albion. And no other ‘keeper appeared.

This made Rodak now second choice behind Marcus Bettinelli and it seemed that he would be staying at Craven Cottage.

But this last few days it seems that the Cottagers have been making enquiries about Fabricio Ramirez who is currently on the books of Turkish side Besiktas. And Besiktas, it seems, have lined up not one but three ‘keepers to replace him.

That would mean that Fulham have three ‘first team’ ‘keepers on their books and push Rodak back down to third – where, if we think about it, he won’t get many games.

So, let’s hope that Fulham sign the former Turkish U20 shot-stopper and allow the Millers to fetch back Marek Rodak (and I want to put ‘where he belongs’ but perhaps that’s just too premature?)

Of course if we do start the season without Rodak we still have two capable goalies in Lewis Price and Laurence Bilboe on our books.
