Rotherham United took all three points this afternoon from Moss Rose which sends them joint top of League Two.

The Millers started strongly with Paul Warne going close twice in the opening minutes although it was Matthew Tipton who should have put the home side in front on nine minutes but was so long deliberating that his shot went wide of Andy Warrington’s goal. Jose Veiga well held a shot from Dale Tonge and at the other end, Andy Warrington got his fingertips to a shot from Tipton to put the ball over. Then, Tom Pope put a ball across the goal line which Adam Le Fondre just failed to get on the end of. But it was Le Fondre who finally got on the goal sheet on twenty-four minutes when he made a good run into the penalty area and got in front of a Town defender to slide the ball into the back of the net. Soon after, Pope almost made it two but his shot was deflected over. Just after the half-hour mark, a poor punch by Warrington fell to the feet of Colin Daniel but his left-footed volley went wide. Minutes later, the visitors went two up when Tom Pope climbed above everyone to power home a strong header. In time added on in the first half, Macclesfield got a goal when a long ball from Daniel went over Ian Sharps and Tipton scored from just ten yards out.

The second half was a bit of a scrappy affair with Rotherham seeming to give the ball away quite a lot. Daniel found Tipton who’s effort caught Warrington unawares but the Millers ‘keeper palmed the ball up into the air before neatly catching it before it went over the line. Nicky Law, who had beaten Izak Reid all game, put in a dangerous cross on the seventieth minute which was turned behind by Paul Morgan for a corner under pressure. The home side were getting more and more into the game but couldn’t really create anything. A penalty claim by the Millers when Lee Bell practically clutched the ball to his chest with his hands, was turned down before the Millers hit the killer blow. Tonge passed the ball to Ryan Taylor, on for Le Fondre, who completely missed it but it fell to Danny Harrison some fifteen yards out and he stroked the ball low into the corner to make it 3-1.

A good first half for Mark Robins’ men but the second half didn’t really live up to that as the Millers looked a bit jaded.
