Rotherham United make the trip to Salford to take on City in the first round of the Carabao Cup tomorrow.

This is the first game of the new season and, because of the Coronavirus, will play in a closed doors stadium which must be a bit on the odd side for both sides although there have been friendly closed door games in the past couple of weeks for both sides.

Salford, who are managed by Graham Alexander start next week in just their second season as a Football League side finishing in a very credible eleventh place in League Two last season while the visiting Millers were promoted in second place to the Championship when last season abruptly ended.
The Ammies could give debuts to a number of new players brought in this summer one of those being Ian Henderson who was on loan with Rotherham in 2007. It’s also likely that former Miller’s midfielder Richie Towell will start the game although striker James Wilson might miss out due to lack of match fitness.

Rotherham Manager Paul Warne told the Official Site that he is expecting a ‘tough game’ and he will put a team out who will ‘try to win’ the game. ‘Things have gone really well in pre-season,’ the Gaffer said, ‘and we’ve managed to score a lot of goals in the pre-season games so the lads are pretty confident.’

The Millers have a few injury worries going into this cup game with Trevor Clarke picking up a calf injury playing for Ireland in mid-week with Ben Wiles, Matthew Olosunde and Curtis Tilt also on the injured list not counting the other players who have ‘niggles’. New siging Mikel Miller is also out suspended. It will be interesting for Millers fans to see who will be in goal with Jamal Blackman and Viktor Johansson both coming in during the last few weeks.

The referee for this game is James Oldham from Derbyshire.
