Millers v Imps Stats

Rotherham United’s first home league game of the season ended in a two-nil defeat to newly promoted Lincoln City.

But what do the stats tell us?

They tell us that around eight thousand people came away from the New York Stadium with heads bowed and mumbling and groaning to themselves.

But they also say that the Millers had most of the possession yesterday – which, I suppose, being at home is to be expected. They also say that of duels in the air Rotherham won sixty-six per cent to the Imps’ thirty-three – is that because we put more balls in the air? (Pretty incredible if that’s right on a day where the wind would have given Lanzarote a run for it’s money). Or were our players more able in the air than those of Lincoln?

Our passing skills show that our accuracy was over sixty per cent which, again for such a windy day, can’t have been bad and of thirty-one crosses forty-two per cent found their man.

Attacking, obviously, Lincoln scored twice – from just three shots on target. The Millers failed to score from their seventeen shots at goal of which, like the Imps, three were on target which leads to the shooting accuracy stats showing Lincoln’s at one hundred per cent while Rotherham only got to eighteen per cent.

On the report card this must be one that says ‘must do better’ but we can’t forget the poor weather condition’s part in this game – can we?
