Rotherham United have been drawn against Premier League side Manchester City in the third round of the FA Cup which will be the third meeting between the two sides in this competition.

The pair first met at Maine Road in this competition in January 1979 when the game at Maine Road ended goalless. The replay at Millmoor was a four-two win for City with John Breckin and John Green getting the Millers goals that evening.

The Millers were last in the third round in January 2017 when they were last in the Championship and entered at this round. Oxford United were the visitors to the New York Stadium and won three-two with Rotherham’s goals coming from Danny Ward and Tom Adeyemi.

The last time Manchester City were on Rotherham soil was at Millmoor in a Division One game in March 2002. Alan Lee put the Millers ahead on the stroke of half-time but a sixty minute goal from Ali Benarbia earned a point for the visitors.

The last time Rotherham United were on Manchester City soil was at Maine Road in a Division One game in November 2001. The visitors went ahead on twenty-four minutes with a goal from Chris Swailes but goals from Christian Negouai and Ali Benarbia gave City the win on the day.

The games will take place on the weekend beginning 5th January 2019.
