Millers Sting Bees

A single goal from Delroy Facey saw Rotherham United take all three points in this basement clash at Griffin Park today.

The Millers caretaker manager, Mark Robins, made six changes from the team that lost at home to Port Vale last week, bringing in three young players to make their debuts. Jamie Yates, Liam King and on loan signing, from Norwich City, Rossi Jarvis all got deserved praise from the manager after the game.

The goal came with the Millers first attack of the game on thirteen minutes when Facey was the last man on a looping ball and put it past Nathan Abbey in the Bees goal. Straight away Michael Leary came close to getting an equaliser but Neil Cutler saved high to his left. The impressive Ian Henderson should have made it two but was denied by Abbey and Neil Shipperley should have scored just before half-time but David Worrell headed off the line. The half-time whistle came and the Millers players were full of smiles and giving high-fives as they left the pitch.

Ian Sharps had the ball in the back of the net just after the break but it was ruled out for off-side. The home fans were lifted with the introduction of Lloyd Owusu, back after eleven months out with a groin injury, midway through the half and he nearly got the equaliser straight away from a Booker corner but Cutler held onto the ball. As the wind got stronger the away team started to surge forward with Craig Fleming missing from two yards out when it seemed easier for him to score and Kevin O`Connor producing a brilliant last minute tackle to prevent Henderson from getting the second. Abbey saved well from Martin Woods and Facey screamed the ball over the top from twenty yards out.

The Millers looked a determined side today and they did Mark Robins and the travelling two hundred and fifty three supporters proud. The only down side seems to be an injury to Michael Keane, who came on with five minutes to go but was involved in a collision with Gary Richards and had to be helped from the pitch.

Whoever is named as the new manager of Rotherham United can be proud of the team today. Three much needed points. Too late? Probably, but ?????.
