The Millers ended their run of four games without a win when they beat Grimsby Town at Blundell Park this afternoon with a Ryan Taylor goal in the first half.

Rotherham started the brighter and Tom Cahill could have opened the scoring in the first few minutes but his shot went just wide. Cahill had another chance ten minutes later when a Jamie Green cross found him eighteen yards out but his left footed shot was parried to safety by Phil Barnes in the Mariners goal. Ryan Taylor had a shot that went just wide before a Nick Hegerty cross was cleared by Marc Josepth. The Millers always looked the more likely to score and their goal came ten minutes before half-time when a back header by Ryan Bennett was under-hit and Taylor nipped in to put the ball under the diving body of Barnes. His shot hit the post and trickled along the goal line before it struck the other post and went in – it almost seemed as if the five hundred or so travelling Millers had ‘sucked’ the ball over.

At the start of the second half, Cahill linked well with Peter Holmes who saw his shot saved by Barnes. Marc Joseph had a free-kick saved while the home side saw crosses by Peter Till and Peter Bore go wide. Andy Taylor also had shot blocked by Holmes after a good run and, at the other end, Holmes himself had a shot saved. Town were tiring and didn’t cause the Millers too many problems although ex United striker, Martin Butler, saw a shot go just over the bar before Marc Newsham, on for Cahill, had a superb strike saved by Barnes.

In the end the Millers came out worthy winners at the seaside and jumped over Grimsby into twelfth place this evening.
