Rotherham United’s dream of a Wembley win ended this afternoon with a three-two loss to Dagenham and Redbridge after twice coming from behind.

It was a lovely afternoon and the Millers fans were enjoying their day at Wembley with flags flying and singing from the start of the game. Both sides had chances in the first twelve minutes with Andy Warrington punching away a good effort from Danny Green and Pablo Mills couldn’t quite get his header on target at the other end. Ryan Taylor then had three shots in as many minutes, firstly a Kevin Ellison cross found Taylor and with Tony Roberts in the Daggers goal well beaten, he saw his shot bounce just wide. Then at the near post he headed wide before Roberts saved a third header. At the other end both Green and Gain had shots that were no problem to Warrington before the Millers’ keeper brought off a wonderful save from Romain Vincelot and the rebound was deflected over the bar by Ian Sharps. Warrington brought off another good save when he got down well to a Green quick free kick. But, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before the Daggers went in front and their pressure finally paid off when Damien McCrory crossed a good ball into the centre and Paul Benson’s shot curled into the bottom corner of the net. But their jubilation was short lived when just sixty seconds later when Kevin Ellison’s looped ball found Taylor who headed past Roberts to get his first goal of the season. Now it was the Millers who were putting on the pressure and in the final minutes of the half, Ellison received the ball from Nicky Law and shot at goal but his effort was well blocked. Law and Ellison combined again in time added on when the winger found Ellison in the area but the ball was cleared before he could get a shot in

Dagenham came out brightly for the second half and it was no surprise when they took the lead again on fifty-six minutes. Danny Green got the ball from a long throw and shot from the edge of the penalty area past Warrington. Four minutes later it looked like the Millers would equalise when Mark Lynch crossed in a low ball, Taylor failed to connect but Danny Harrison was on hand to shoot but saw his shot hit the woodwork. But a minute later the Millers did get the equaliser when Taylor got the ball from Law, controlled it and rammed the ball in the net past Roberts. But that only seemed to fire Dagenham up and Mark Arber brought off another good save from Warrington. Ellison had a shot at the other end that went well wide but on seventy minutes the Millers defence failed to deal with a Green corner and the ball fell to Jon Nurse whose shot deflected of a Millers’ leg into the net. Marcus Marshall, on for Pablo Mills, had a header that saw Roberts dashing across his goal, but the shot went just wide and in the final minute of the game Nick Fenton had a header that wasn’t on target.

It was a good game for any neutral football fan watching, but a big disappointment to Ronnie Moore’s men, who fell to their knees in despair when the final whistle was blown.
