Millers Lose Former Skipper

|

Rotherham United have lost a former captain with Peter Madden sadly passing away this week.

Born in Bradford the tall defender joined the Millers in 1955 making his debut in April the following year against Plymouth Argyle. Making the number five shirt his Peter went on to make over three hundred league appearances and play forty-two cup games scoring seven goals. He was in the Rotherham squad that played in the first League Cup Final in 1961 which was played over two legs against Aston Villa, playing in both ties. Peter was the Millers skipper for several years before moving to Bradford Park Avenue in 1966 and Aldershot the following season.

After hanging up his boots, Peter went down the management road and was spent from 1975 until 1978 at Darlington and three years at Rochdale from 1980 until 1983. After leaving football Peter ran a pub in Littleborough in Greater Manchester.

All at Vital Rotherham send our condolences to Peter’s family and friends at this sad time.
