Wycombe Wanderers 0 Rotherham United 1
                                                 Ihiekwe 90+2

Rotherham United got their first three points of the new season away at Wycombe this afternoon with a late headed goal from Michael Ihiekwe.

It was an interesting first minute with the Millers having Chieo Ogbene down and Kieran Sadlier’s free-kick some forty yards out heading towards Shaun MacDonald with Wycombe getting the ball away with Jacobson sending it over the top to Scott Kashket who got the better of Wes Harding. He put the ball across goal to Daryl Horan who slid in putting it over when it looked easier to score. A couple of long throws from Harding came to nothing before Clark Robertson brought down Jacobson who took a cheeky free-kick just inside the Rotherham half which Jamal Blackman in the Millers goal saved. At the other end Wanderers’ ‘keeper Ryan Allsop did well to push the ball behind from Sadlier with Ihiekwe putting the resulting corner over the crossbar. The Millers were starting to build up some pressure and MacDonald was felled resulting in a yellow card for Matt Bloomfield and a free-kick which Harding took going towards a sea of red shirts but was defended well. At the other end a Joe Jacobson free-kick found Darius Charles who was put off by Blackman and hit the upright with the ball falling to Onyedinma who hit it straight into the arms of the Millers’ ‘keeper. A free-kick from Joe Mattock found Ihiekwe but he put the ball wide and a set piece from Wycombe saw Charles sky the ball over the crossbar.

Although neither side made any changes for the second half it was only seven minutes in when Michael Smith replaced Matty Crooks who went straight down the tunnel. Wycombe had the first sight of goal in the second forty-five minutes with Matt Bloomfield putting the ball wide before Smith sent a good ball into the area for Freddie Ladapo but the striker couldn’t get to it before Ryan Allsop. On the sixty-sixth minute Ben Wiles came on for Kieran Sadlier with the midfielder appearing to go onto the left wing. The hosts first change saw Nick Freeman on for Matt Bloomfield. Wes Harding was the first Miller to see yellow for a late challenge on Fred Onyedinma. With ten minutes to go Kashket did well to lift the ball over Jamal Blackman only to see Wes Harding clear it off the line which was followed with a second host sub seeing Jason McCarthy on for Alex Pattison. A minute later the last Millers change brought on Kyle Vassell for Freddie Ladapo and Wanderers last sub saw Scott Kashkett make way for Josh Parker. Blackman did well to clear a cross from David Wheeler with the defence doing their work and getting the ball away from danger. With two minutes of four gone in time added on the visitors got a corner which Joe Mattock took and Ihiekwe rose highest to head the ball into the net leaving Allsop standing watching. And it might have been two when Vassell got the ball and with Smith in space and willing him to send it over to him Vassell decided to take a curling shot which went wide of the post.

Maybe not the best spectacle of a game you’ve ever watched/listened too but it was the first game of the season, first three points and an away win – we can’t ask for much more than that.
