Millers Get First Away Win!

Rotherham United won their first away win of the season this afternoon – and won it in style.

Travelling to Aldershot the Millers made six changes to the starting eleven who started last Saturday at home to Southend and also had Manager Steve Evans back after a six game stadium ban.

It was a lively start from both teams but it was the Millers new boy, Lee Frecklington who had the first shot at goal on four minutes when he received a low cross from Lionel Ainsworth but his shot was easily saved by Jamie Young in the Shots’ goal. Just minutes later the Millers faithful thought they’d gone ahead when a Ben Pringle free-kick looked to touch Daniel Nardiello before it went into the net but the flag was raised for off-side. On thirteen minutes Young did well to get to a Nardiello header and push the ball wide and five minutes later the ‘keeper was on hand again to push an Ainsworth effort out for a corner. With the Millers getting a foothold into the game the opening goal wasn’t far away and on thirty-three minutes Pringle crossed from the left, saw it headed clear but then fall to Freckington who curled his shot into the top corner of the net. Five minutes later it should have been two when Young misjudged the bounce of the ball allowing Alex Revell to cross to Nardiello but he put his header wide under pressure from Ben Herd. Just before half-time former Miller Troy Brown had to be alert to keep out a flick shot from Ainsworth.

The Millers started the second half like they finished the first, on top. Three minutes in and Young had to parry out a shot from Ainsworth and a few minutes later the shot stopper did well to turn over a shot from Frecklington. It looked like Ainsworth had got the Millers second when his shot beat Young but hit Aaron Morris and a few minutes later Frecklington had a shot blocked. But it wasn’t long before the second goal came when, on fifty-seven minutes, the Millers were awarded a free-kick which Bob Harris took and curled it past Young. The Shots just seemed to give up after that and Ainsworth and Pringle both had shots that went wide before Ainsworth found himself in acres of space and his shot could only be parried by Young and fell to Revell to tap it in for number three which gave the Millers all three points and sent the Shots hurtling to their seventh consecutive defeat.
