Millers Chairman ‘We’ve Got What We Deserved’

Rotherham United Chairman Tony Stewart told Radio Sheffield that the weekend had been ‘incredible’ yet ‘nail-biting’.

After watching his club promoted back to the Championship Mr Stewart said, ‘The quality of the football was superb and I think we’ve got what we deserve. in my time, which is fourteen years, this has to be the climax of all the seasons. We got the Papa John’s Trophy and to get the promotion on Saturday was the icing on the cake.’

Asked why he thought the Millers had got automatic promotion this season he said, ‘Recruitment did their job and I think it’s the best recruitment we’ve had at Rotherham. We’ve got a fine manager who is an intelligent guy and is one of the top, if not the top in League One and he’s got his coaching staff. Everyone connected with Rotherham United have really pulled the rabbit out of the hat this season. And week after week we’ve been putting performances on the pitch.

‘It’s been exciting this season, exhilarating, and the fans have been there through thick and thin supporting us. They’ve been fantastic. They’ve really supported the team and a lot is down to that twelfth man.

‘It’s good for us, good for Rotherham and it will have lifted the town.’

Going on to talk about next season Mr Stewart said ‘we’ have to learn from what’s happened when we’ve gone up before saying, ‘We will prepare well, recruit well, train well, work hard and give entertainment.’ He went on to say that talks had already started about players contracts and said, ‘it’s looking very, very favourable for the fans of Rotherham. The recruitment team have been working behind the scenes on the gaps that want filling. This time round we’ve got into the Championship to stay in the Championship as long as we can. My job is to make sure I’m complimenting the manager by getting the players that we need to get us into a good position in the Championship.’
