Millers Boss Would Like To Have Won Title

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne got the Millers promoted to the Championship for the third time since taking over on Saturday and admitted that his initial emotion was ‘relief’.

And I think, as fans, we all agree with him!

Speaking to Radio Sheffield the Millers Boss said, ‘It would have been lovely if we could have won the title but I’m not complaining.

‘I thought we could have been three up at half-time but they (Gillingham) could have scored when they hit the bar, which I wasn’t best pleased with. We knew what their threat was and I think they were really organised.

‘We just couldn’t get that second goal. While you’re only one up there is always a chance that they might get a long throw into the box that falls to one of them. And although they didn’t really trouble our goalkeeper there is always that chance. So the second goal was crucial and it fell to Georgie (Kelly) to get it.

‘We’ve got to the Championship and we know the size of our club. We’re a competitive club and we’ve played really good football at times this year and we doubly deserved our win while the lads deserve all the praise we can give them. My job is to try and keep them and improve for next year.

‘The lads have been excellent. They are hungry for success and I’m really proud of them. To get a cup win (Papa John’s Trophy) and automatic promotion is something that this club has never done before and will always go down in folk law and I’m really proud to be a part of it.’

I hope the manager, his back room staff and the players have time to enjoy this promotion before getting back to business and getting ready for time in the second tier of English football.

Up The Millers!
