Millers beat County

Rotherham put the loss at Barnet mid-week behind them and got back to winning ways against Notts County at Don Valley this weekend.

The visitors were the more lively at the start and Myles Weston went on a solo run and with Andy Warrington beaten, he saw his shot hit the crossbar. At the other end, a poor clearance gave Mark Hudson a chance but he dragged his shot wide. Ex Miller, Jonathan Forte had a shot at goal which saw Warrington, at full stretch, make a good save and the Millers ‘keeper pulled off another save from Weston to keep his shot out. Just after the half-hour mark a shot from Matt Hamshaw was headed off the line by Nick Fenton. A minute later, a Ryan Taylor pass found the head of Drewe Broughton only for the striker see the ball go just wide. It was the fortieth minute before the home side got their first corner and from that Ian Sharps had the ball in the back of the net only for it to be ruled out for a push on a defender. But the Millers were up for it now and just before half-time they took the lead when Micky Cummins got through County’s defence to send Mark Hudson through on goal and he blasted his shot past Kevin Pilkington, much to the Millers fans delight.

The Millers came out for the second half looking for another goal and almost had one when Broughton found himself in space in the penalty area but his shot was straight at Pilkington. Reuben Reid came close soon after that but saw his shot, from close range, blocked by Jamie Clapham. But Reid made no mistake on the fifty-ninth minute when he received a perfect pass from skipper Pablo Mills and put the ball neatly past Pilkington to score his tenth goal in ten games. Six minutes later, Forte gave the visitors some hope when he pushed Nick Fenton aside to chase a long ball and smashed the ball into the back of the net. A few minutes later it could have been two-all when Delroy Facey should have done better in front of goal but scuffed his shot straight at the Millers ‘keeper. Even though County threw everything they had at them, looking for an equaliser, the Millers held strong and gained all three points.

A good result for the Millers after faltering mid-week. Let’s hope we can do it again on Monday.
