Rotherham United have been drawn against Crewe Alexandra in the first round of this season’s Carabao Cup which will be the first time they’ve met in this competition.
The Millers got through to the Second Round of the Carabao Cup by beating Morecambe in the first round at the New York Stadium. Michael Mellon put the visitors in front on the twenty-second minute with Josh Kayode equalising fifteen minutes later. That’s how the game ended and the tie went to a penalty shoot out where penalties from Jordan Hugill, Ollie Rathbone, Tyler Blackett and Fred Onyedinma plus two saves from Milllers’ ‘keeper Dillon Phillips saw the Millers get a second round tie away at Stoke City. The night at the bet36 Stadium was a disaster for the visitors with City taking a quick two-goal lead before Sean Morrison pulled one back. Unfortunately Stoke went on to score another four giving them a six-one win.
Crewe got a first round draw against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last season which saw the visitors go in front thanks to a Luke Offord goal on the stroke of half-time. Sunderland drew level and the game went to penalties which the Alex won five-three. Their second round game ended goalless at Vale Park with Port Vale winning the penalty shoot-out two-nil.
The games will take place on or around 12th August 2024.
