Grimsby Town 2-2 Rotherham United
Rodgers (3) Clarke-Harris (13, 55 (pen)
Gardner (87)
Rotherham United got a draw at Blundell Park this evening with Johnson Clarke-Harris getting both goals for the Millers.
The hosts were out of the blocks quickly and only a smart save from Millers’ ‘keeper Cameron Dawson stopped Charles Vernam opening the scoring on two minutes. But, Grimsby did score from the resulting corner when the ball came out to Harvey Rodgers on the edge of the area who slammed the ball home. A chance for the Millers three minutes later saw A Trialist send a low ball towards the far post but Jordan Wright in the hosts goal was equal to it. Alex MacDonald earned the visitors a corner which Joseph Hungbo took with Wright again there to collect. Clarke-Harris found himself in a good position when the ball came in from Hungbo minutes later but some smart defending from Rodgers stopped him getting the equaliser before another good cross in from Hungbo did find the Millers striker who headed in the equaliser on thirteen minutes. Another chance for the visitors saw more good work from Hungbo as he eased past his marker sending a lovely ball for Hakeem Odoffin who put it wide before Kieran Green had a chance at the other end but there was Odoffin to head clear. Nice football from A Trialist saw him get the ball to Liam Kelly who fired low but Cameron McJannet got a touch to stop the ball finding the net. At the other end good work from Clarke-Harris saw him flick the ball to A Trialist who missed from close in.
No changes at the start of the second half for either side saw Grimsby get the first chance when a foul on George McEachran saw the free-kick from Matty Carson well saved by Cameron Dawson. The Millers were on the attack with Joseph Hungbo which saw Lewis Cass do well to stop the Millers player in his track. But the next time Hungbo went on a run Cass brought him down in the area with Johnson Clarke-Harris scoring the resulting penalty to put the visitors in front. The hosts had the chance to get an equaliser straight away when Alex MacDonald was adjudged to have handled just outside the area, getting a yellow card, the set-piece finding Carson who saw his shot pushed away to safety by Dawson. Some poor defending saw Liam Kelly latch onto a loose ball, his shot from inside the box well put behind by Jordan Wright. A corner at the other end from Carson was put behind by Cass which seemed the time to make changes, with Callum , with Ainley replacing Green for the hosts and four changes for Rotherham saw JCH, Christ Tiehi, Liam Kelly and A Trialist replaced by Esapa Osong, Shaun McWilliams, Joe Powell and another Trialist. Wright had to be on his toes a few minutes later when a lovely ball in from Osong came close to finding McWilliams as he ran into the area. An injury to Carson saw him replaced by Denver Hume with Donovan Wilson making way for Tyrell Warren shortly afterwards. Another change saw |Harry Brown replace Charles Vernam. Osong got himself into a good position but saw his shot turned behind before a Joe Powell corner was taken by Wright at the second time of asking. Changes for the Millers saw Sam Nombe, Cohen Bramall and Cameron Humphreys on for Jack Holmes, Joe Hungbo and Alex MacDonald. A free-kick for the Millers came to nothing but with three minutes to go Grimsby made better work of their own set-piece. A foul on McEachran saw Hume’s free-kick sent across goal for Cameron Gardner who equalised from short range to make it a two-all draw.
The Millers certainly didn’t have it their own way this evening but it was another game that got minutes into players which is all you can ask for in a friendly.
