Live Football To Begin In October? – Or Next Year?

|

There is a difference of opinion today of when football supporters – Rotherham United fans amongst them – will be allowed back into stadiums to watch their teams after football came to a grinding halt in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Yorkshire Post are telling us that stadiums could well be open in October this year but LeedsLive say it will be more like next year – 2021 – when clubs let fans in again.

The Yorkshire Post says that the EFL are thinking that this season’s games will be played behind closed doors with next season starting in September with hopes that there will be ‘an audience’ by October.

But, LeedsLive say that the EFL Chairman, Rick Parry, isn’t really expecting fans to be able to watch live football again at stadiums across the country until 2021.

This will be a big blow to us football fans but an even bigger blow to many of the lower league clubs who, frankly, need the football to keep going. Even the clubs who are in quite a good place will surely feel the pinch if they lose out on season ticket money, fortnightly ticket money and other sales that happen at live football games.

Of course, nothing has yet been confirmed – firstly we still don’t know how long we are going to be in lockdown and, I really think until we know the answer to that, nothing can be decided regarding letting people watch live football again.

Keep Safe.
