Let’s Look At The Stats – Millers v Bees

Rotherham United lost their fifth game on the bounce this evening, this one against high flyers Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Once again the Millers had chances in this game having ten shots on goal, six inside the box, of which three were on target while the hosts saw five on target from fifteen shots. We also had forty per cent of possession and had four corners to Brentford’s two.

Passing accuracy in our opponents half came out at fifty-two per cent and our crossing accuracy was thirty-two per cent. Defensively we had seventeen tackles to the Bees’ eleven and conceded fifteen fouls to Brentford’s fourteen. There were no cards shown in this game.

How often do we say ‘we started well’ then either our opponents score (as they did this evening) or they stop us from playing our game because they find us out – and we don’t seem to be able to change things to stop them doing that. It seems to me at this moment in time we are a good League One side but the Championship seems to be that step too far for us and if we don’t learn how to combat that I think we are destined to be that ‘yo-yo’ team that other fans talk about.

Yet, it’s still not over. If we win our last three games and those about us falter and we get another season in the second tier of English football will we then be able to establish ourselves at this level. It would possibly mean we’d be able to hold onto the majority of our players, add a couple in the right areas and who knows what that will bring?

As I said we still have a chance and while there are straws to be clutched at I shall be one who is doing the clutching.
