Let’s Look At The Positives

Rotherham United might have been relegated at the end of the season but you have to try and take some positives from the season.

We might all have had a moan about how many chances we’ve had, how many times we’ve hit the post, seen a shot go inches wide but to get all those opportunities we proved that we could get in good positions.

We beat play-off side Brentford away, gave a good show of ourselves against newly relegated from the Premier League Bournemouth, took Premier League side Everton to extra time in the FA Cup game at Goodison Park, won away at Hillsborough, Middlesbrough, Preston, Bristol City and Derby and lost by just one goal in both games against champions Norwich City.

Although we might have the idea that our strikers didn’t score as many as they perhaps should have, Michael Smith and Freddie Ladapo got nineteen goals between them – Smith getting ten and also having three assists – more than the top two strikers at Huddersfield, Birmingham, Nottingham Forest, Coventry, Luton Town, Preston, Millwall and Middlesbrough who all finished above us.

We did actually sign some good players. Viktor Johansson, I believe, is an excellent goalkeeper who is good in the air, takes catches and is a brave ‘keeper. And what a signing Wes Harding has been – he just seems to take everything in his stride. I also have to mention Lewis Wing who we had on loan from Middlesbrough – this lad just keeps going and will be an asset to anyone next season (if only it could be us ….)

Then we have to talk about money and a year in the Championship has reportedly been worth £7 million, probably a godsend with having an empty stadium all season.

Now, if we can just take all those positives into League One next season. Of course I realise we are going to lose some of our players, possibly one’s we really can ill afford to lose, but we must have learnt over the past year or two that we really have to invest during the summer to take the League by storm which I think most Millers fans will be expecting.

Up The Millers.
