League One Play-Offs To Include More Teams?

After a conference call yesterday with League One and Two clubs the EFL have said that, regarding League One, innovative solutions would probably be needed to decide the season.

Included in those ‘solutions’ it has been suggested that the League One Play-Offs could include more than the teams in third to sixth place.

If things go how the EFL are wanting it to then Coventry City and our own Rotherham United would be promoted as Champions and runners-up and the next four should be in the play-offs but, as we’ve mentioned in previous articles, Wycombe Wanderers are just outside the play-off spots with a game in hand on everyone else while Sunderland are above them in seventh place on the same number of points but with a better goal difference. Which, if we are understanding this correctly, would mean that both the Black Cats and Wycombe would also take part in the play-offs.

It was thought that all this could be decided yesterday but a few (six shall we say) spanners in the works meant that, although League Two have made a decision to bring their season to a close, League One and the EFL have to have more meetings.

I’m still a bit confused about when and where these play-off games are going to take place. Obviously they will be behind closed doors but will they have to neutral grounds? Where will the final take place? Will it be a ‘no tackling’ game? So many questions and probably not so many days to get all this done.

Stay Safe.
