Rotherham United travelled to Dagenham this afternoon and came back with all three points thanks to an Adam Le Fondre goal on sixty-one minutes.

Rotherham dominated the opening minutes of this game today but the Daggers defence stood defiant and stopped the Millers’ players getting forward. The first shot of the game came on ten minutes from the home side when Josh Scott received a good ball from Graeme Montgomery but Ian Sharps was alert and stopped the player before he could get a shot in at goal. A few minutes later, Scott got in a header but it bounced just wide of Andy Warrington’s goal. Marcus Marshall got a good cross in for Le Fondre at the other end but his shot was put out for a corner. Tony Roberts, in the Daggers goal, had a first shot to save on thirty-three minutes when an overhead kick from Kevin Ellison was turned round the post by Roberts. Josh Walker then scuffed a shot towards goal and a shot from Le Fondre went over the bar. At the other end, Damien McCrory saw his shot, from a free kick, go just past the post and not long afterwards Andy Warrington brought of a good fingertipped save from a Montgomery cross.

The Millers could have taken the lead in the opening minutes of the second half when a good lay-off from Marshall found Walker in the box, but he mis-kicked and the ball was easily saved. Neither side had another shot at goal until the sixty-first minute when Marshall, again, did well to get a cross into the area which was picked up by Nick Fenton. Fenton scuffed his shot and the ball fell to Craig McAllister and Roberts made a brilliant save from his shot but Le Fondre was in the right place at the right time and bundled the ball over the line in front of the travelling Millers faithful. Dagenham responded to the goal straight away and a header from Paul Benson found it’s way onto the top of the net and Phil Walsh, on for Marlon Pack, saw a header go just over the bar. Danny Green took a corner a few minutes later and Arber was the first to get to it which Andy Warrington did very well to save. But, the Millers defence stood strong and the home side were unable to break it down.

Not a brilliant performance but the Millers, who passed the ball about better today than of late, just about deserved the three points.

It doesn’t matter how the goals go in, it’s another one for Alfie, Alfie, Alfie!
