‘Lacklustre, Disappointing, Not Good Enough’ Says Warne

I think it’s fair to say that Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne wasn’t over-enamoured with his teams performance in the away friendly at Rochdale last night despite coming back from two-down to draw.

‘I thought we were below par in every department,’ the Millers Boss said taking very few positives from the game saying, ‘we were outrun, out fought, out played. It was lacklustre and hugely disappointing.’

Guessing he wasn’t impressed then!

Carrying on Warney told IFollow ‘The scoreline is irrelevant. We didn’t deserve a draw. Our performance wasn’t good enough, our pressing wasn’t good enough, our aggression wasn’t good enough and there weren’t many performances there that made me think ‘he’s going to definitely start’ in the first game of the season.’

Oh dear. Well, unless we suddenly get an abundance of players in during the next couple of weeks who are fit and ready to go then I really do think we will be starting with quite a few of those players.

The Millers have just come back from a tough training camp in Budapest, the weather yesterday was the hottest ever, even in the evening – but Paul Warne did not make those excuses for the performance his team put in last night.

Perhaps the most positive things to come out of it was that the players will now know what is expected of them, they fought back to get a draw, albeit only a friendly, and Chieo Ogbene’s goal was great – try and watch it somewhere. And, perhaps just as importantly, we didn’t pick up any injuries.

The last ‘live’ game I went to was our game at Rochdale and that was poorest Millers performance I’d seen all season so maybe it’s just a ‘Rochdale’ thing with us – clutching at straws.
