Jackett Warns League One Promotion Hopefuls

Rotherham United should have been playing Gillingham at the New York Stadium in front of the television camera’s today but, of course, that isn’t happening and some of us are doubting that it will happen for many weeks – though, I think we hope to be proved wrong.

Yesterday former Millers Manager and now Portsmouth Boss Kenny Jackett sent out a message to the teams at the top of League One warning that his Pompey players will be ‘one hundred per cent ready’ when the season re-starts.

Portsmouth are one of three teams with sixty points – two points behind Rotherham – and are fourth behind Oxford on goal difference. A good February saw them gain fifteen points three of those against Sunderland who are just out of the play-off places but lost to Fleetwood who are below Pompey on goal difference and to Coventry who are in top position. They played two league games in March losing away at Peterborough and drawing at home to Fleetwood.

So, Mr Jackett expects his players to be ready to come out fighting – but shouldn’t we all expect our players to be ready? A few weeks in isolation where they are presumably keeping themselves fit surely they will all be raring to go? Or might they be feeling a bit rusty? One thing is for sure if the season starts again there won’t be any time for any mid-season friendlies to get them pumping – it will be, I imagine, straight into it with a little training and then game after game to get the fixtures finished.

Of course, we are still waiting for someone to make a decision on what is happening with football. Although, in the grand scheme of things it’s not really a priority is it.

Keep Safe.
