I’m Feeling Very Humbled

As a Rotherham United fan I don’t expect a lot of people who aren’t Millers to want us to do well so I have been feeling very humbled the last few days getting messages of ‘good luck’ from supporters of other teams in the Championship – Birmingham City, Middlesbrough, Luton Town and even a Wednesday fan I know said he was ‘rooting’ for us last night.

Fans of other teams appear to look at the Millers differently from our own fans. A Hatters fan thought we were ‘skillful’ in the game last night while, I believe, most Rotherham fans thought we were ‘wasteful’ with sentences including words such as ‘barn doors’ being bandied about the social media pages. Personally I do think some of our players have some lovely footballing skills but we tend to end up lumping it in the air in panic.

Of course fans from other teams don’t follow the Millers like our own fans do and don’t see them week-in, week-out although this last month Sky TV has certainly tried to rectify that with Rotherham appearing to be on every time you turn that switch!

This season has been very much a roller coaster for Millers fans who in their hearts knew we could never compete with the top sides. But this time a few years ago we were already down and out while on the last game of this season we have something to fight for. And if our players aren’t up for this fight I don’t know when they ever will be.

We will probably lose all the players we have on loan but luckily we have a couple of lads who have come bursting through the ranks who really should be playing in their home club shirts next season.

Going back to this season we can’t even say ‘it’s in our own hands’ because even if we win we are reliant on other teams to win or lose (and how would you feel as an Owls fan having the dilemma of winning your last game that would keep the Millers up and send you down?)

One thing being a Miller it is never a dull affair but that one time wouldn’t it be nice to be safe with two or three games to go – just once!

Thank you to all the fans from other teams who have suddenly become Millers for a game or two! Have a good summer and we hope to see some of you next season.

Up The Millers and remember the good times are just around the corner.

Morning caz, like all fans we all critise or own teams because that’s what we are. Anyone who watched last night’s game can see the problems teams like us have in this division. It’s just that lack of a clinical finisher. An teams like us can’t afford them. Both teams could have scored 2. But it wasn’t to be. Just take heart from what we did last year. It can be done as we proved. So from what you showed last night I still feel you can do it. Good luck sat

This game really showed how desperate we are for a free scoring midfielder who takes chances when they occur. Our success in the past has come from goals scored by defenders, midfielders and forwards but we need much more from midfield.

Our conversion from corners is also letting us down and I believe we need to increase the variety oF crosses both in and outside of the box.

However what a great season for Nathan and the team what we want now is to see the work on the new stadium commence and a few new players to move us to the next level.

Hatter75 we also need someone who can put the ball in the net. I actually thought most of your corners caused us problems last night. You have had a great season and I hope you can work on that for next season too. Hope the new stadium build goes well.

Hi CinL – yes, again we couldn’t get the ball in the net which has been our main problem this season. Let’s hope the management and above realise this and do something about it for next season.

Caz, how a SW fan could be ‘rooting’ for us when it would have relegated their side escapes me. Quite a few fans of other clubs want us to survive not because they like us but because they hate Derby or the Owls. A team that fails to score in 8 of its last 11 games, is thrashed at home by the bottom side and fails to beat four teams with nothing to play for deserves to go down. To me it was an insult to the fans that with 3 games still to play the board confirmed PW for next season. It says basically results don’t matter. I can see no plan either at a club or management level of what we are trying to achieve. A friend of mine who is a member of the national supporters organisation told me the general feeling is that RUFC have repeatedly thrown away chances to progress in the Championship and don’t deserve another.

    • Caz Neale (Herringthorpe) says:

The Owls fan is a friend of mine and is sick of what is happening at ‘his’ club which is why he said that to me. And I agree with your friend, Kevin, I think we have had many chances to cement our place in the Championship and not taken them. As to ‘deserving’ another chance if we get promoted we aren’t going to turn it down are we.

caz whats your thoughts on the chairman giving warne the managers job on a perenent basis no matter what the results are c in l

    • Caz Neale (Herringthorpe) says:

I always thought he would back his manager, CinL, to be honest. Whether things will change mid-way through next season we will have to wait and see
