If We Had A Magic Wand

Rotherham United might not be playing this weekend but I’m sure us, as fans, will be keeping an eye on what’s going on with the teams at the bottom of the Championship.

I don’t think it will need rocket science to work out that Rotherham United need to get something from the fourteen games they have left this season to give themselves a chance of starting next season in the Championship.  Usually we’d say that the Millers can only help themselves but that isn’t possible on Saturday as our game at home to Coventry City has been postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the New York Stadium.

But, if we had a magic wand what would we be wishing for this weekend?

Sorry, and I have nothing against the two teams below us but it would be good to get a Preston North End win on Saturday and for Norwich City to increase their place at the top on Sunday.

Aitor Karanka hasn’t exactly endeared himself to Millers fans this week and his Birmingham City side are just above Rotherham in the league so a Bristol City away win wouldn’t go amiss for us while a Queens Park Rangers home win against Huddersfield Town would fetch the Terriers that bit into the relegation fight. While away wins for Millwall and Reading could also help too.

Of course, when the Millers are back in the field, so to speak, which hopefully will be on Tuesday night when Watford are in town, we need to get points on the board.

All except one of our latest postponed games have been re-scheduled – Brentford, 27th April and Luton Town, 4th May – with the only outstanding game being our home game to Coventry City which it was hoped might take place during the international break but that isn’t to be.

All in all it is going to be a very busy couple of months for Rotherham United.  And, make no bones about it, it’s going to also be tough.

I’m just hoping we have a team of fit players to put out on Tuesday, Dermot. From what I saw in this weeks Advertiser the virus seems to have knocked some of our players for six and I’m not sure how many will be able to play.

To be honest the criticism of Karanka is out of order. Every RUFC fan would say the same had it happened to another club. And you will be hard pressed to find any fans of any other Championship club who don’t think RUFC have been at fault. Coventry fans are desperate for us to go down as they think we are cheats. We are the least popular club in the Championship. Some of what has gone on has been disgraceful; the abuse aimed at Rooney from the Chairman’s box was completely out of order. I feel we are becoming the Millwall of the north and I don’t like it one bit.

I agree that the fans would probably have a moan, Kevin, but I am almost positive that our Manager would not come out in the press and say anything like this. I don’t know what abuse that Wayne Rooney had thrown at him but I also think it unnecessary.
