How Are Our Loaned In Players Doing?

Following on from a previous article about our loaned out players let’s have a quick look at how our loaned in players are doing.

Rotherham United have got only two loan players – so far – this season which is, I believe, the least I’ve known for many years, in fact, how long as it been since we didn’t have a loaned in goalkeeper.

Defender Rarmani Edmonds-Green joined at the beginning of August from Huddersfield Town and has made seventeen appearances for the Millers so far this season. Peckham born the twenty-two year old came through the Youth ranks with Huddersfield and this is his fourth spell out on loan previously having been with Brighouse Town, Bromley and Swindon Town.

Of his seventeen appearances thirteen have been in the League, where he scored his only goal, so far, in our two-nil away win at Cheltenham.

As a Millers fan I think it’s fair to say that Reg has got better with each game he plays and is always in Paul Warne’s mind to be in the starting eleven.

Our only other loanee this season is striker Will Grigg. Will joined Birmingham City at the age of seven but was released eight years later going to play for the Solihull Moors youth set-up. He went on to play for Walsall, Brentford and Wigan before joining the Black Cats in 2019.

The thirty year old joined on transfer deadline day at the end of August from Sunderland. We were expecting ‘big’ things from Will from the off but didn’t actually deliver at the start of his time at the New York Stadium. But things have got better for him and he has played in thirteen games scoring six goals.

The question now is, will we be able to keep hold of them in January or will they be called back to by parent clubs?  It is looking favourable towards the Millers with both Huddersfield and Sunderland letting us play them in the FA Cup first round – but, as we know, time will tell.
