Rotherham United have three players on loan as we go into the International break but how are they fairing in the Championship?

The first of the Millers loanees, Grant Hall joined on 23 July from Middlesbrough. Rotherham are Grant’s fourth loan club he’s been at Swindon Town, Birmingham City and Blackpool were the other three when he was with Tottenham Hotspur. Middlesbrough got the now thirty year old defender in the summer of 2020 on a free from Queens Park Rangers and he played in twenty-eight games for ‘Boro.

Since coming to the New York Stadium Grant has played in seven games for the Millers, six of those being league games and has helped our defence keep four clean sheets.

A few days after Hall joined Scott High came in from Huddersfield Town. Coming through the youth ranks with the Terriers the twenty-one year old midfielder’s had two loan spells with Concord Rangers of the National League South. His last loan spell saw him with League One side Shrewsbury Town where he played sixteen times before being recalled by Huddersfield in December 2020 and going on to make thirty-nine appearances.

Scott has made ten appearances for the Millers eight of those in the league all off the bench but played the full ninety minutes in both Carabao Cup games.

August saw our third loanee arrive, Brooke Norton-Cuffy from Arsenal who he joined at the age of twelve. The eighteen year old right wing-back signed his professional contract in January 2021 and the following year went on to have a loan spell with Lincoln City who he made seventeen appearances for in League One.

Brooke’s first appearance for Rotherham was in the Carabao Cup and four days later he made his Championship appearance going on to play in another five games and fast becoming a fans favourite with his dribbling skills and quickness. Brooke has been called up for the England U20’s but Paul Warne have pleaded with the FA to ‘excuse him duties’ as he’s had to leave the pitch early in the Millers last two games with a tight hamstring and, obviously, the Millers don’t want it getting worse.

Many fans are still saying we need more bodies in the squad but whether they will be loan players or we wait until the transfer window opens again in January or if we get anyone at all remains to be seen.
