How Accurate Do We Think The Stats Are?

Rotherham United gave as good as they got against a Stoke City side that had Premier League players in their side from last season.

Being one of the ‘smaller’ clubs in the Championship, on paper, it looked like the Potters should wipe the floor with the Millers, although they were – and still are – on the same points.

Stoke were the better side in the first half and the Millers were the better side in the second half and scored twice in the first five minutes are so of that half. A win would have been great but, in the end, Paul Warne’s side had to settle for a point with City pulling the goals back.

The stats tell us that Stoke had more possession than Rotherham, were better in the air and had a better passing accuracy with the Millers crossing accuracy being the better. I can’t really argue with any of that but am a big niggled that Stokes passing accuracy in opponents half was seventy-one per cent to the hosts sixty per cent – for me it was more like fifty/fifty.
