Rotherham United’s latest recruit Jack Holmes said that it was a ‘bit of a surreal moment being a professional footballer.’

Jack, who began his career with Burton Albion went on to play for Halesowen, Hereford then recently Stamford where he scored in a friendly game against Rotherham and caught Steve Evans’ eye.

Speaking to the Official Site after signing a twelve month deal with the Millers the twenty-two year old said that signing a professional deal meant everything to him saying, ‘Football has been my life since I can remember. It means everything to me and my family who have supported and followed me throughout my journey.’

He’s played a couple of pre-season games in a Millers shirt and set up the Joseph Hungbo’s equaliser against Sheffield United on Saturday, which, I think it’s safe to say, did him no harm.

It was quite a quick decision from the Millers Boss to have Jack join Rotherham on a trial with the winger getting ready to play the day after Rotherham had been to the Zeeco Stadium against Kings Lynn before the Manager of the Dannies telling him he’d be on his way to South Yorkshire instead.

‘When I was playing for Stamford and saw the teams we were playing I did want to put in a performance against them hoping I’d get noticed,’ Jack said. ‘So the fact I did play well against Rotherham and the Gaffer took an interest was a nice moment for me. But it’s been a crazy couple of weeks and it’s probably not fully sunk it. But I know I now need to go again and carry on.

‘The fact that I’ve got my first contract over the line is a great moment. I want to try and repay the Gaffer in any way I can for giving me this opportunity. He seems to really believe in me.

‘I’m just a football lover and when I’m out on the pitch I want to play it the way that’s got me here. But I’ll never forget where I’ve come from.’
