The last time the pair met at the Madjeski Stadium was on Easter Monday in April 2017. Rotherham went in winning at half-time with a nineteenth minute goal from Tom Adeyemi. But second half goals from former Rotherham players Lewis Grabban and John Swift gave the hosts all three points.
A Tuesday night in February 2016 saw a goal from Hal Robson-Kanu on sixty-six minutes give the hosts all three points. Richard Wood, Greg Halford, Grant Ward, Richie Smallwood and Jonson Clarke-Harris saw yellow for the Millers that day alongside Michael Hector for the Royals.
The season before at the Madejski, in November 2014, was a three-nil win for the hosts. Jamie Mackie scored just before half-hour mark and second half goals from Simon Cox on fifty-five and sixty-four minutes gave the Royals all three points.
August 2004 saw a penalty on the stroke of half-time from Dave Kitson, after Shaun Barker bundled Nicky Forster over in the area, give Reading the win.

The last time the Millers won at Reading was at their old ground of Elm Park in May 1977. The Millers won three-nil with a hat-trick from Trevor Phillips in front of just over five and a half thousand fans.
The game at the New York Stadium earlier in the season saw the game end one-all. Sam Baldock opened the scoring on nine minutes for the visitors but as the board went up for five further minutes Joe Mattock got the equaliser for the Millers.
