Rotherham United welcome Blackburn Rovers to the New York Stadium for what will be their sixth visit with the game in March 2019 seeing five goals and giving the Millers a first win after five consecutive draws. A long throw from Will Vaulks on two minutes found Semi Ajayi who headed home with Rovers getting an equaliser six minutes into the second half from Amari’i Bell. Six minutes later Ryan Williams put the Millers back in front with Ajayi and Vaulks working well again for the tall Nigerian to get his second and the Millers third. Three minutes into time added on Michael Ihiekwe gave away a penalty which Charlie Mulgrew put away to make it three-two and an uncomfortable last couple of minutes for the home fans.
The first time the pair met at the New York Stadium was at the end of September 2014. Kari Arnason opened the scoring on five minutes with Luciano Becchio making it two just after the half hour mark which gave all three points to the hosts. Booked that day for the Millers was Lee Frecklington with Rovers having Grant Hanley, Shane Duffy and Cory Evans booked.
The last time the Millers and Rovers met at Millmoor was in Division Two in May 1983 at when a hat-trick from John Seasman gave the Millers a three-one victory.
The pair have met thirty-eight times before in the past with Rovers winning nineteen of those to Rotherham’s twelve.
The game in December at Ewood Park was a two-one win for Blackburn. A goal just after the hour mark from Michael Smith gave the Millers the lead but goals in the last ten minutes of the game from Harvey Elliott and Adam Armstrong gave Rovers all three points.
