Rotherham United welcome Swansea City for their second visit to the New York Stadium the first one being in November 2018 when the visitors went in front on twenty-five minutes with a goal from Oli McBurnie while Millers’ ‘keeper Marek Rodak kept out shots from Bersant Celina, Daniel James and Leroy Fer. With ten minutes to go Kristoffer Nordfeldt in the Swans’ goal brought down Jamie Proctor in the area and up stepped Ryan Manning to level things up from the spot. And with three minutes to go referee Tony Harrington pointed again to the spot after Fer handled in the area and again Manning took the resulting penalty which gave the Millers a two-one win.
The time before that that Swansea were on Rotherham soil was at Millmoor in February 2007 when both were in League One. Pawel Abbot put the hosts in front after twenty minutes with Lee Trundle making it two-nil just after the hour mark and although the Millers got a consolation goal from Martin Wood, Robert Martinez’s got a win on his first game in charge of City.
October 2005 was a two-all draw between the sides at Millmoor. Grant Leadbitter put the Millers in front but a minute later Lee Trundle equalised. Marcus Bean gave the Swans the lead on fifty-nine minutes but a Barry Conlon goal in the last minute of the game saw Rotherham get a point.
The last time Rotherham beat Swansea at Millmoor was a Tuesday night in October 2000 in a League Division Two game. The game was just five minutes old when Mark Robins put the hosts in front but thirteen minutes the Swans were level with a Steve Watkin goal. Darren Garner put the Millers back in front on twenty eight minutes and second half goals from Kevin Watson and Alan Lee made it four-one to Rotherham. A Matt Bound goal ten minutes from time made it four-two on the night.
The first time the pair met at Millmoor was a three-one win for the visitors in April 1952. Peter Wragg was the Rotherham scorer.
The game at The Liberty Stadium earlier this season saw just one goal which was a twenty-eighth minute Matt Grimes strike giving the hosts the points.
