Rotherham United welcome neighbours Sheffield United for their third league visit to the New York Stadium, the first one being in September 2013.
That game saw Jose Baxter put the visitors ahead on thirty-seven minutes. Kieran Agard equalised six minutes into the second half followed by a seventy-second minute penalty from Daniel Nardiello, who himself had been fouled in the area, with Rob Milsom making it three-one four minutes later.
It was November 2018 that we last saw Sheffield United in the league on Rotherham soil in a game that ended two-all. Mark Duffy put the visitors in front on just eight minutes with Will Vaulks keeping a shot from David McGoldrick after he got back well to deny the Blades’ player on the line. Vaulks was involved in the Millers equaliser on sixty-six minutes when his ball found it’s way to Jon Taylor whose shot, via a deflection, went into the net. Five minutes from time the Blades went in front again Chris Basham scoring but some poor football from Marvin Johnson saw the ball eventually falling at the feet of Jamie Proctor who made it two-two in time added on.
The time before that in the league the pair met at Millmoor in the 2004/5 season in the Championship. Michael Tonge and Paul Shaw put the Blades two-up with two goals in the opening two minutes of the second half. Seven minutes later Chris Swailes pulled one back for the Millers and a Martin McIntosh goal on seventy-one minutes saw the Millers get a draw.
Rotherham also beat the Blades at Millmoor in the old Division Three in February 1981. Goals from Ronnie Moore and Tony Towner gave the Millers a two-one win in front of almost twelve thousand fans.
The game at Bramall Lane on a cold Tuesday night in November saw the Millers get their first win there for forty-two years thanks to a Ben Wiles goal on thirty-eight minutes.
