Rotherham United take on neighbours Doncaster Rovers at the New York Stadium for the first time since a Football League Trophy game in October 2019 which was a three-two win for the Millers.
The last time the pair met on Rotherham soil in a league game was in February 2018 when John Marquis put the visitors in front on thirty-nine minutes. But pressure from the Millers finally paid off three minutes into time added on when a Joe Newell free-kick was headed home by Michael Smith and three minutes later Smith was fouled in the area and Newell made it two-one from the penalty spot.
Before that Rotherham last entertained Rovers in town at Millmoor in September 2006 which was a goalless draw.
Millers last beat Rovers at Millmoor on New Years Eve in 2005. Rotherham won the game one-nil which was the first clean sheet they’d kept since the end of September. Rovers played the last twenty minutes with ten men after Paul Heffernan saw red and with it looking like it would be a nil-nil draw up popped Lee Williamson on the stroke of full-time to give the hosts all three points.
Rovers last won on Rotherham soil in March 1985 when it was a three-two win to the visitors.
The first time the pair met at Millmoor was in September 1923 in Division Three North. Goals from Bailey, Hammerton and Lofthouse gave Rotherham a three-nil victory.
