Head to Head

Head-to-Head – Millers v Coventry City

|

Rotherham United thought they would be making the journey to Ricoh Arena to take on Coventry City for this away fixture but after problems with the owners of the ground the Millers are instead going to St Andrews, Birmingham, where the Sky Blues are playing their ‘home’ fixtures this season.

The last time the Millers played an away game against Coventry was in November 2013 when the Sky Blues were playing their home games at Northampton’s Sixfield Stadium. Three second-half goals from Nouha Dicko, scoring his first goal in a Rotherham shirt, followed by goals from Alex Revell and Kieran Agard getting his from the penalty spot.

The last time that Rotherham played on Coventry soil was at Highfield Road in the Championship in the 2004/5 season when the game ended goalless.

Coventry have had some big home win against the Millers not least the seven-nil thrashing in 1925 but they have also had four-nil and four-two wins over Rotherham in the past and the last time the Millers won Coventry on their home soil was way back in December 1964 in the Old Division Two. The game saw eight goals with five of those going to the visitors. John Galley (3), Albert Bennett and Ian Butler scored the Millers goals.

The last time the Millers scored away at Coventry was in a one-all draw in League One in April 2004. Andy Morrell scored for the Sky Blues on fifty-six minutes but a seventy-fifth Martin Butler goal gave Rotherham a point.

The game at the New York Stadium in October was a four-nil win for the hosts with Matt Crooks and Michael Smith getting two apiece, both Smith’s coming from the penalty spot, the second after Kyle McFadzean had been sent off for fouling Crooks in the area.
