Rotherham United’s first game of the 2021/2 season is at home and sees Plymouth Argyle make the long trek up from Devon to the New York Stadium.
December 2017 was the last time the pair met in Rotherham in a League One game that saw Millers skipper Richard Wood get a second yellow five minutes into the second half. Former Miller Ryan Taylor put the Millers in front with eight minutes to go but a Semi Ajayi goal three minutes into stoppage time gave ten men Rotherham a point from the game.
A League Two game in October 2012 when the only goal of the game came on the seventy-third minute from Kieran Agard giving the Millers all three points with Rotherham getting another one-nil win the season before at their temporary home of Don Valley Stadium when Lewis Grabban scored from the penalty spot after Gareth Evans was brought down by Darren Purse.
Plymouth were last at Millmoor on Rotherham in a Championship game in October 2004. The only goal of the game was scored on sixty-five minutes by Mattias Doumbe for Plymouth. Just over five thousand fans were at Millmoor that day to see former Millers favourite, Bobby Williamson, win there as a manager, in what was described as a ‘guts rather than glory’ game.
The teams first met at Millmoor in January 1953 when Gladstone Guest and Colin Rawson scored for Rotherham but were on the losing side Plymouth winning three-two.
