Rotherham Reserves 4 Grimsby Reserves 0

Two goals each for Kyle Vassell and Joshua Kayode gave Rotherham United Reserves a four-one win over Grimsby at Roundwood this afternoon.

The game was just a few minutes old when a good cross into the box from Anthony Forde found Vassell who got low enough to head the ball in for the first goal. Minutes later it was Forde again who found Vassell at the back post with the striker getting his second headed goal of the afternoon. Before the quarter of an hour mark the hosts were three up when a Forde corner saw Kayode climb above everyone else and put the ball into the net. Millers’ young ‘keeper Charlie Farrer went to ground as Rumarn Burrell rounded him but was foiled by defender Harrison Beeden who cleared off the line.

In the opening of the second half a Darren Potter cross saw Clark Robertson head across goal with a Mariners defender clearing. But the Millers did get a fourth after a lovely cross in from Kyle Vassell found Joshua Kayode who stuck the ball into the back of the net. Matt Palmer might have scored from a twenty-five yard free-kick but went just wide of the upright and Charlie Farrer did well late on to put Rumarn Burrell off who put his shot just wide.

Not only a win for the Millers second string but it also gave time on the pitch to Robertson and Vassell who played just over sixty minutes and Darren Potter who was on for the full ninety. Could any, or all, of these be ready to be in the squad for Saturday – or even start?
