The Millers were beaten by a 23rd minute disputed goal today at The Priestfield Stadium watched by the lowest crowd of the season.

Gillingham’s Gary Mulligan scored his third goal of the campaign when he tapped the ball in from a Matt Jarvis cross. David Worrell thought he had been impeded and reacted badly two minutes later when a rash challenge on Jarvis saw him yellow carded by referee Mr Singh.

Yet it was The Millers who started brightly with Delroy Facey and Will Hoskins coming close before The Gills scored the only goal of the game. Jarvis had a shot go wide himself and also brought a save from Neil Cutler.

The Millers made their first substitution of the day, bringing on Gregor Robertson for Paul Hurst at half time and Martin Woods had the ball in the back of the net. But The Millers fans cheers were short lived as Woods was adjudged to have fouled Kelvin Jack on the line and the goal was disallowed. This spurred the Gills on and Andrew Crofts and Dean McDonald had shots at goal. With 20 minutes left, Hoskins beat Jack only to see Ben Chorley, who was covering at the back, deflect the ball over the bar. Mark Bentley, Jarvis and Andrew Crofts also had shots at The Millers goal as The Gills tried to improve on their one goal lead. Rotherham seemed to burst into life in the last minutes of the game and both Eugene Bopp and David Hibbert, who was on for Richie Partridge, had shots at goal but it was not to be and The Millers went down to their first defeat in seven League games.
