Gaffer’s Thoughts On Yesterday’s Game

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne must have been pleased after his team got another three points away from home on Saturday.

Speaking to Freeview after the one-nil win at Burton the Millers Boss said, ‘I don’t think we were firing at our best although I think we created enough chances to win the game comfortably. But, overall, I’m pretty pleased.’

And he is probably right when he says that. But, as we’ve been saying for ages now, we don’t seem to look comfortable in front of goal – we aren’t taking the chances we really should be.

Warney also mentioned he thought our set-pieces were good – mostly they were and yet there were times when the ball didn’t get over the opposing defenders in the wall and I really do think it should be doing that. But, saying that, I do think that Dan Barlaser is a good corner taker though, I thought Ben Wiles did as good a job when he took over later in the second half.

The Gaffer also mentioned that he didn’t think the three up front worked as well as he wanted at Burton. Looking back on it, it probably didn’t. Michael Smith seems to be playing more on the wing and I don’t think that suits him – though I am here to be proved wrong.

Burton Manager Nigel Clough was rather animated on the touchline yesterday and told their Official Site that he doesn’t think his team did much wrong throughout the game.

‘We have had enough chances to win the game today,’ Clough said after the game. Rotherham are a big tough, physical side but we dealt with the set plays brilliantly. They had a couple of chances on the break but not much more than that.’ Ed Note – I’d disagree with that to be honest>/i>.

He wasn’t that happy with the penalty shout that Albion had when Scott Fraser went down under a challenge from Richard Wood in the box in the second half wasn’t given saying, ‘if we don’t get that penalty given I can’t see us getting one all season.’ I have to admit I didn’t actually see the incident when it happened but having seen it back I do think Woody went for the ball while not many of their players appealed BUT I have seen them given.
