Let’s talk about Walsall
Rotherham United v Walsall
Chris Hutchings and his Walsall team are the first visitors to Don Valley for this pre-season game on Saturday.
The last time these two teams met was in the 2005/06 season with Walsall getting all six points. The first game was at Millmoor and the Millers lost 2-1 when Kris Taylor put the visitors one up in the first two minutes and Martin Butler equalised just before half-time. It looked like it was going to be a point each until Jorge Leitao, on as a sub, gave the Saddlers all the points in the ninetieth minute. The game at The Bescott Stadium ended 3-1. Matty Fryatt got two goals in the final three minutes of the first half and Leitao got the third before Will Hoskins scored a consolation for the Millers.
In total Rotherham United have beaten Walsall thirty-one times in League and Cup games with Walsall being on the winning side thirty times. There have been twelve draws between the sides.
Walsall currently play in League One and were originally formed in 1888 as Walsall Town Swifts. The club moved to the Bescott Stadium in 1990, although, for sponsorship purposes the ground is now called Banks’s Stadium. The highest crowd at the Bescott was on 9th May 2004 when the Millers were in town.
Last season Walsall finished mid-table and Michael Ricketts and Troy Deeney were top scorers with twelve goals each.
On Saturday, the Saddlers will wear their new away kit which is green and black and it is thought that new signings Mark Hughes, Josh O’Keefe, Sam Parkin and Steve Jones will play some part in the game.
The game takes place on Saturday, 18th July at Don Valley Stadium with a 3.00pm kick off. Admission is £10 for Adults and £5 for Concessions.
