Final Game Stats Of The Season

Rotherham United have said goodbye to the Championship last weekend but they failed to win their last home game of the season although, any fan who was there, would admit that it wasn’t without a fight.

For me the Millers were the better team although both them and Middlesbrough had chances – with Rotherham having eighteen shots at goal to the visitors twelve while both had four on target. Of course, of those eight shots ‘Boro scored twice of theirs to the Millers one. Rotherham had had six shots outside the box and twelve inside.

Defensively Rotherham were slightly the better with fifty-three per cent of their tackles being successful to Middlesbrough’s forty-seven while passing accuracy in the opponents half was around the same – sixty-three per cent to the home side and sixty-one per cent to the visitors.

Of the goals, two were penalties, one to each side while the second ‘Boro goal was quite special from Jon Obi Mikel, who not that long ago was winning Premier League titles, FA Cups and UEFA Cups with Chelsea alongside African Cup of Nations accolades with Nigeria. It could be said that Middlesbrough’s penalty was a little lucky (but then I am a Miller) and that Rotherham should have had a penalty for a handball before the penalty they did get which Michael Smith scored.

So, next season we have the likes of Peterborough, Coventry and Oxford coming back to the New York Stadium – and I’m sure we will give them a game.
