FA Cup Stats – Millers v Maidenhead

Despite going one down in the twenty-fifth minute of the game at York Road yesterday Rotherham United really did control this game and came back to score three second half goals to go into the draw for the second round of the FA Cup.

The Millers had sixty-five per cent possession against National League side Maidenhead United and had twenty shots at goal of which six were on target to the Magpies one on target (their goal) from five shots. With the pitch not being the best – due to the pouring rain before and throughout the game – Rotherham tried their luck from outside the box, with eleven of those twenty shots coming from there.

Rotherham’s passing accuracy came out at seventy-seven per cent with the accuracy in the opponents half being sixty-seven per cent. Our crossing accuracy was twenty-six per cent, just six per cent more than Maidenhead had.

The hosts, say the stats, made twenty-seven twenty-seven tackles during the game of which seventy-eight per cent were successful while the Millers success rate was one hundred per cent from the sixteen they made.

But, with the Millers being in League One and Maidenhead in the National League isn’t this how it should be? And, I do wonder, although I thought the Millers were on top when it happened, if the red card hadn’t happened (and I do think it was a red card) would things have been different? Well, that’s something we will never know.
