Rotherham United got a point away at Huddersfield this afternoon but Manager Steve Evans told Radio Sheffield that he was ‘disappointed’ it wasn’t more.
Speaking after the goalless draw at the John Smith’s Stadium the Millers Boss said, ‘In the first half they looked a bit sharper than which comes with not having played two or three days ago. But we had to allow for that and we defended really well and had one of the line by Shaun (McWilliams) and we were counter-attacking without getting anywhere.
‘At half-time we told the boys we wanted two or three of them to move into different areas of the pitch which opened us up. We had chances. Mallik (Wilks) missed a couple though he worked incredibly hard, all our players do.
‘We pressed and pressed trying to get the winner, and I think we were the much better side in the second-half, but we hadn’t got that final bit of quality in the locker today. But I think we’ve left two points behind today.
‘I thought there were some exceptional performances today. I’m really pleased with Cam Humphreys who controlled the middle of the park, Shaun McWilliams was creating chances and had his header off the line. My centre-backs Hakeem Odoffin and Zak Jules were awesome today. This is a difficult place to come and they are thirteen games unbeaten. Michael (Duff) has some talented players but we’ve proven today that if we can keep that effort, commitment and passion that this football club is famous for, get that little bit of quality in our locker then we will win games
‘I’m pleased with the two games we’ve played. We went to Lincoln with a lot of people down on us but we named the same team today and it’s worked. That might change because Bolton are a different type of opponent but it worked here today.’
Asked about the red card for the Town player, Evans said, ‘I think initially they were complaining but they got immediate footage on the bench and accepted it was a red card. It was a naughty, naughty challenge and I think the kid knew as he walked off. But Humphreys being Humphreys has got up and got on with it.’
And the transfer window? ‘There won’t be lots of business,’ the Millers Boss said. ‘Any player we want to bring in has to be to improve and not to give us more of the same. We want to strengthen the middle of the park and after losing Joe (Hungbo) there might be a wide option and certainly someone up top with chances being that young Ciaran McGuckin will go out and join a Conference club on Monday.’
Injuries? Both Christ Tiehi and Sean Raggett are thought to be ‘ten days away’.
