Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans was ‘pleased’ with the workout his players got last night against Stamford.

Speaking to the Official Site after the four-two win he said it was a ‘fantastic workout’ saying, ‘Stamford is a good football club with a good manager and good, wholehearted, younger players.

‘It was a typical second friendly game and I thought we had good spells and poor spells in the game. At half-time I think we could have been five-one up where Jordan (Hugill) could have perhaps had two or three and how we passed the ball and moved it around the class of players told.

‘The plan was to give the boys as many ninety minutes as they could get through and the last twenty minutes there were players running on empty but they kept going.

‘At half-time Paul (Raynor) reminded the players that winning becomes a habit and losing becomes a habit and we all know about the last eighteen months at the football club. At the end of the game I told the players we know what we’ve got to improve on and we’ve got three weeks to do that.’

The Millers had a trialist in the group who scored two of the four goals with the Gaffer saying, ‘He’s done alright. He’s an attacking midfield player who has experience in the EFL. We probably need to see a bit more but he certainly ticked a box and didn’t cross a box. His first finish was tremendous.’

Asked about Johnson Clarke-Harris who has been out with an injury, Steve said, ‘He’s trained today but he won’t be involved tomorrow, it will be next week. And Shaun McWilliams has a groin problem with the medical staff saying ‘we are almost there’ but, I keep reminding them, that ‘almost there’ isn’t there and we can’t go down the road that we’ve done in previous years, particularly thinking of last season. The answer with these two is the fans will see them soon.’

The Millers take another squad of players to take on Spalding United this afternoon where it’s a 3pm kick-off.
