The Enjoy The Match Campaign was launched at the start of this season and it’s aim was to encourage more families to go to watch their local football teams. It did this by creating a family friendly environment by eradicating swearing and abusive language and aggressive behaviour in the family areas of grounds.

Of the League’s seventy-two clubs, sixty-eight, including Rotherham United, have pledged their support for this campaign.

Between August 2008 and December 2008, the attendances in family area’s is up 12% which has generated more than £1.5m in additional ticket sales.

It seems that 91% of fans agree that by getting rid of the abusive behaviour has made watching football more appealing to families and Lord Mawhinney, the Football League Chairman, told the Football League’s Official Site, ‘These findings are encouraging and it shows that fans support our efforts not only to get families attending club games but also to grow the supporter base. Our aim is to to build the next generation of Football League supporters and this initiative is a positive step in the right direction.’
