Rotherham United Chairman Tony Stewart says that he expects a decision on the 2019/20 by Thursday at the latest.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post earlier today Mr Stewart is expecting the EFL to call the season off with news about promotion and relegation to come later.

Because of the coronavirus that has swept the world the last time Rotherham United played was at the beginning of March, the season coming to an abrupt halt with the Millers in second place in League One.

Obviously Mr Stewart – and the Rotherham fans – want the decision to be that the top three in League One get promoted. But, not surprisingly, Southend United Chairman Ron Martin. whose team who are at the opposite end of the table to the Millers, second from bottom, isn’t in agreement with the bottom three going down, saying that the ‘competition we started in August is no longer recognisable’ and that the season should be ‘announced void’.

I can see both points of view. Void the season and start anew when it’s safe to do so (though, I fear that could be months away) BUT what does that mean for the footballing records such as players with hat-tricks, highest/lowest crowds at grounds, top goal scorers etc etc.

On the other hand let’s just send the top three up and top three down – which would be fair if all clubs had played the same number of games, but they haven’t.

With what has been going around social media and the ‘Chinese whispers’ we are hearing I think it’s more than ninety per cent sure that this current season (which should now be in the play-off stages) is not going to see a finish. What we don’t know is how.

Stay Safe.

Up The Millers.
