Rotherham United and West Bromwich Albion are thought to have agreed a fee for Millers centre-half Semi Ajayi

Speculation has been growing since the tall Nigerian International was the only fit player not to get minutes in the pre-season friendly away at Bradford Park Avenue on Wednesday that he wouldn’t be at the New York Stadium for the beginning of the season with the Baggies and Leeds United being mentioned as possible clubs in for him.

Today, Leon Wobschall has posted for the Yorkshire Post that Rotherham and West Brom have agreed a fee.

Semi originally came on loan from Cardiff City to the New York Stadium in January 2017 with the deal being made a permanent one a few months later. He has made over one hundred appearances in a Rotherham shirt scoring fourteen times, eight of which came last season in the Championship.

As a fan I just hope this deal is a good one money wise and also for the club as, I feel, the utility man will be missed.

I hope not! But looks like yet another big player leaves the millers for peanuts. A big cut will probably go to cardiff because it seems every club in the country inserts a sell on clause to their sold players, except for rotherham. Cant ever remember recieving any sell on money. West brom get 6m for dawson, an ageing, slower , poorer player than semi, who is a beast and a current international who scores goals. 1.3m is an insult, joke, abomination in the current market. I said it with vaulks, weve go no balls, we sell at the first sniff, and worst of all, other clubs know that we will sell so they go in low. We take it, job done. Stupid. Well after a my rant, we may not need semi after switching to 4 3 3. Maybe no panic.

To be fair, Nick, the £1.3 has only been mentioned in one newspaper – where they got that figure from is, I think, a bit dubious. But, if it is only that amount then I agree, we should be getting more for him. On the other hand, I suppose, he will be a free agent this time next year and we’d get nowt for him. We’ve got one winger on the books at the moment as far as I’m concerned but plenty of forwards so it could be we do go three up front at home – that would suit me to be honest.

Trying to put things into a bit more perspective, whatever we get for Semi, the fact that he cost us nowt has to be taken into account don’t you think?
I believe we have evolved into a club that I call “The Southampton Syndrome “. Discover raw talent, bring them on and then flog em.
Warnie and co. have demonstrated that already.
Together with that and our maturing academy is how I personally see our long term future. UTM..

Yes, Stephen, what we got for Semi has to be a plus for us as he cost us nothing. As we don’t, and probably never will know, what exactly we did get or what any add-ons might be it’s difficult to comment isn’t it. But I also think we have to take into consideration what he was worth to Rotherham United – maybe that has been done. And haven’t we always been a bit of what used to be called a ‘feeder club’ making the kids into men sort of thing and then selling them on.
