Crooksy Will Be Missed

|

Rotherham United have sold Matt Crooks to Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee –  subject to EFL and FA ratification – which is not surprise to us Millers fans with the rumours having rumbled on for a couple of weeks now.

Matt joined the Millers in January 2019 from Northampton Town and helped Rotherham gain promotion back to the Championship that same season.

After coming through the Youth Academy with Huddersfield Town midfielder Matt and while there had loan spells with AFC Halifax Town, Radcliffe Borough, Hartlepool United and Accrington Stanley who he signed for in February 2015.  The following year he signed a four year deal with Scottish side Rangers missing the start of the season with an ankle injury.  He made just a handful of appearances for the Scots Premiership side before moving back to England on loan with Scunthorpe playing a dozen times.  The summer of 2017 saw Matt join the Cobblers and from there he came to the New York Stadium.

The twenty-seven year old made ninety-seven appearances for the Millers in all competitions scoring twenty-one goals and was awarded the EFL Championship Player of the Month for January this year.

Crooksy fast became a Rotherham Fans’ favourite, he will have left a big void to fill while here at Vital Rotherham we wish him ‘all the best’ with his future.

Well he didn’t see much of him last time his team played Rotherham, Stewart. And we did haggle for a better price while I don’t think we can stop the lad wanting to play in the Championship and not League One. Money might be ‘rolling in’ Stewart but take a minute and think of what we have lost since covid swept over us.
